4:00 pm Thursday, November 17, 2011
Mark Feighn (Rutgers Newark - Math)

In his 1983 paper "Topology of finite graphs," John Stallings introduced "folding" -- a beautifully simple idea that is now pervasive in some areas of geometric group theory. We will discuss folding and use it as a guide to some developments, especially in the study of automorphism groups of free groups.
