Congratulations on your admission to Rice University! My name is Ligia Leismer and I work in the Administrative office of the Mathematics Department. We will work together throughout your stay here at Rice. If you have questions about anything concerning your studies at Rice I am a good place to start, so always feel free to come to me with any questions you may have.

IMPORTANT DATES:
MONDAY, AUGUST 13 & 14: Mandatory Orientation for all International Students
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15: Mandatory Rice University orientation for all graduate students
FRIDAY, AUGUST 19: Mandatory Mathematics Department Orientation for ALL incoming students
Required of all new graduate students:
Health Data Form due July 1 in Student Health Services. You will not be permitted to register for classes until Health Services has the form and is satisfied with your immunization records.
Final Transcript due August 17 to Ligia Leismer, Graduate Administrative Coordinator (Office #220).
Payment of fees, insurance, and any tuition not covered by scholarship due August 17 in the Cashier’s office (there will be a late fee if payment is not received by this date). You will receive a bill in July from Rice University.

NOTE: Please report to Dr. Baker’s office (Lovett Hall, Entrance A, 2nd Floor) immediately upon arrival, and plan to attend the entire week of orientation, beginning August 13.. Required upon your arrival only if you have received a Mathematics Department stipend:
Please see our Department Administrator Marie Magee (office #220A), to fill out the I-9 and present your identification documents as soon as you arrive in Houston.
EXCEPTION: International students must return the I-9 directly to the Office of International Students and Scholars.
For identification, the I-9 Form requires an original passport or driver’s license and Social Security Card.
I will be sending you more information throughout the summer via email concerning various things. Please be sure to let me know if you have a new e-mail address. We cannot, of course, send emails to addresses at your previous academic institutions.
