Application Deadline: January 15, 2013

Late applications may be considered until April 15th, 2013. However, candidates who miss the initial deadline place themselves in a less competitive position.

How to apply to the mathematics graduate study program:

Students applying for admission to our graduate program are asked to submit the following.

1. Application Form:

A completed online application for admission.

2. Official Transcripts:

Sent to address below from all colleges and universities attended. It is the policy of Rice University as an institution to require official transcripts at the time of application. Photocopies are not acceptable. We allow unofficial transcripts (including photocopies or non-certified electronic copies) during the admissions process and do not require the official transcripts until after acceptance. However our offer letter is provisional, pending receipt of the official transcripts.

3. Recommendations:

Three letters of recommendation from faculty who are familiar with the applicant's scholastic and personal qualities.

4. GRE:

Test results of the Graduate Record Examination (general), taken within the last three years. (Rice code 6609; Department code 0703)
The GRE mathematics exam is strongly recommended.

  • 600 on the paper-based (PBT) TOEFL
  • 90 on the internet-based (iBT) TOEFL
  • 250 on the computer-based (BT) TOEFL
  • 7 on the IELTS (if taken in lieu of TOEFL)

5. FEE:

A $85 nonrefundable application fee paid online by credit card or electronic check.
