4:00 pm Tuesday, October 19, 2010 Algebraic Geometry Seminar: Conformal Blocks: from Theoretical Physics to Birational Geometryby
Noah Giansiracusa (Brown) in HB 227- In this talk I will discuss a family of vector bundles on the moduli space of curves first discovered by physicists then constructed rigorously using representation theory. In the 90s conformal blocks bundles were actively studied, where connections to algebro-geometric notions such as theta functions were explored. Very recently they have received renewed interest as a tool to study the birational geometry of the moduli space of curves, which will be the main focus of this talk.
