I am a native Houstonian and a product of
the Houston Independent School District (HISD). I was a classroom teacher in
HISD for 26 years. I am a 1969 graduate of Rice University (Mathematics and
French) and earned my Master of Arts degree from Rice in 1971 (Mathematics).
I have a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston,
1992, in Mathematics Education. I am the Director of the Rice University School
Mathematics Project and Clinical Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the Wiess
School of Natural Sciences.
My family consists of myself, my husband
Taki, my daughter Joanna, and our two pets: Aniishka (dog) and Blixa (cat).
Joanna is a 1992 graduate of Rice University who is back at Rice working on
her doctorate in Computational and Applied Mathematics. On most weekends you
can find my husband, me, and our pets at our bay home in Galveston. I enjoy
reading, long walks on the beach with my husband and my dog, and gardening.
