Zooming options in DFIELD & PPLANE

The most basic way to zoom in in DFIELD5 and PPLANE5 is to choose 'Zoom in' from the Edit menu on the Display Window, and then to outline the new display rectangle by clicking and dragging the mouse.

There is a new option here. If the user simply clicks on a point (after choosing 'Zoom in'), a new rectangle will be chosen with that point at the center. The new rectangle will either be the largest rectangle with that center which fits into the old rectangle, or it will be half the size of the old rectangle, whichever is smaller.

In PPLANE5 there is a completely new zooming option which is called 'Zoom in square'. This method of zooming keeps the units in the abscissa and the ordinate axes scaled the same. This option is especially useful with the new linearization feature. The basic operation of this option is precisely the same as the old 'Zoom in' option --- after choosing 'Zoom in square' from the Edit menu, either click and drag or click at a center.

However, there are now ways to bypass the use of the menu by properly chosen mouse actions. These are dependent on the operating system, and more to the point, on the number of buttons on the mouse being used. The options are best presented in a couple of tables.
