Course Policies
Homework: Homework will be assigned every Friday and will be due the following Friday at the end of class. Alternatively, you can drop off your homework at my office before 12 noon the day it is due. If I'm not in, please slide your homework
underneath the office door.
NO late homeworks will be accepted for credit. To compensate for this policy, the lowest homework grade will be dropped in determining final grades. You are ecouraged to talk to other students about the homework but the work you submit must be your own, written in your own words.
Homework should be neat, legible and STAPLED.
Each homework will be graded out of 12 points. Out of all the homework problems, 4 will be graded on a scale of 0 to 3
as follows:
3pts = a correct solution
2pts = some small mistake but otherwise a correct solution
1pt = some work towards a correct solution
0pts = irrelevant work or missing problem
Exams: There will be two midterm exams and a final exam. No notes, books or calculators are allowed during the exams. However, you will be allowed to use both sides of an index card (3"x5") to store formulas, etc.
Midterm Exam 1: Wed, October 8th, in class
Midterm Exam 2: Wed, November 5th, in class
Final Exam: Wednesday, December 17th, 9am, SH 301
It is the policy of the mathematics department that no final may be given early to accommodate student travel plans.
We will not know when the final in this course will be scheduled for some time. Therefore, if you should make plans for travel before the end of
the final exam period, and it turns out that the final for this course is after your scheduled departure date, you will have to
choose between keeping your plans and receiving a zero for the final, or incurring the cost for changing your plans and taking the final at its scheduled
time. Thanks for your understanding.
Grades: The homework and exams count towards the final grade as follows: Homework 30%, Miderms Exams 20% each, Final Exam 30%.
Note: Any student with a documented disability requiring accomodations is requested to speak with me during the first two weeks of class. All such discussions will remain as confidential as possible. Additionally, students also need to contact Disability Support Services in Ley Student Center.
