Polynomial mappings
Micahel Zieve, IAS

I will present properties of polynomial mappings and generalizations. For a complex number c and a complex polynomial f(x), the orbit O_f(c) is {c, f(c), f(f(c)), ...}. I will describe all pairs of polynomials f and g which have orbits with infinite intersection. I will also discuss a common generalization of this result and Mordell's conjecture (Faltings' theorem). After this I will discuss polynomial mappings over finite fields, with connections to curves having large automorphism groups and instances of a positive characteristic analogue of Riemann's existence theorem.
