Lagrangian surfaces in symplectic 4-manifolds

The study of Lagrangian surfaces embedded in a symplectic 4-manifold, up to smooth isotopy, is a sort of natural "knot theory" in a symplectic set-up. In this talk I am going to discuss examples of Lagrangian surfaces in some symplectic 4-manifolds, focusing in particular to the case of spheres and tori, and I will present successes and difficulties of the current techniques.
