PUBLISHING LESSONS ON THE INTERNET * * PUBLICITY * *

Don't be shy about publicizing your lessons! You have worked hard to package your best teaching ideas into an attractive and user-friendly unit. But that lesson will wither away in a dusty corner of the Internet unless you tell search engines and educational indexes that it exists! Here are some places to get you started.

• Register with the large search engines such as :
  • Infoseek
  • Yahoo
  • Excite
  • AltaVista

• Submit your topic to the large educational indexes such as :
  • The Swarthmore Math Forum
  • The Eisenhower Clearing House
  • AskERIC

• After a few months give yourself a treat and search to see where your lesson is listed. Sites you have never heard of will have linked as a result of your original registrations . Such a search can be done on AltaVista. To do this :
  • Go to the Advanced Search page of AltaVista.
  • In Selection Criteria box type --> link: (your URL)
    
  • Click on the Submit Advanced Query button at the bottom of the page.
  • For example, type in the URL of Susan Boone's lessons. Susan was a GirlTECH participant in 1995

    After Susan registered her lessons in a few indexes, they were featured in the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse (ENC) Digital Dozen. Later Susan was invited to show her lessons at the ENC Hard Drive Cafe conference.
