
Anne Papakonstantinou is a native Houstonian and a product of the Houston Independent School District (HISD). After graduating from Lamar High School, she continued her education, earning a BA in Mathematics and French from Rice University in 1969, and an MA in Mathematics in 1971, also from Rice. Anne went on to earn a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction (Mathematics) from the University of Houston in 1992.
Anne has spent her entire professional career in mathematics education. She is currently the Director of the Rice University School Mathematics Project and Clinical Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the Wiess School of Natural Sciences. She designs and implements district-wide programs that impact the teaching and learning of mathematics and collaborates with school districts to document the impact of such programs on students, teachers, schools, and school districts. Before her current position, she was an award-winning classroom mathematics teacher in HISD for 26 years and the recipient of several grants for innovating teaching programs.
Anne is a devoted wife and mother to her husband Taki and daughter Joanna. Joanna is a 1992 graduate of Rice University who is back at Rice working on her doctorate in Computational and Applied Mathematics. On most weekends you can find Anne and Taki at their bay home in Galveston. She enjoys reading, walking on the beach, gardening, and spending time with her family.
