Charlie started teaching high school mathematics at his alma mater, Bellaire High School in Houston Independent School District. He left Bellaire to go back to school and get a Master's Degree, and then worked as an actuarial consultant for Watson Wyatt and Company for a little over seven years. At that point, he realized how much he missed the classroom, and returned to teaching, first at César Chavez High School, then at Westside High School. During this time, he started working as a technology specialist for the Rice University School Mathematics Project's Summer Campus Program. In the summer of 2007 he began working full time for RUSMP.
Charlie has a BA in Spanish from Dartmouth College, and an MS in Applied Mathematics from the University of Houston. He went to HISD schools when he was growing up, and is dedicated to serving public schools in his professional life.
When not at work, Charlie's life is filled with music. He has been playing guitar and piano almost his whole life, and performing off and on for the last 25 years. These days he accompanies his wife Carol in the band Traveler.
