Weak solutions and numerical approximations of coupled Navier-Stokes and Darcy equations

This talk presents a multiphysics problem that arises for instance from the interaction between subsurface and surface flows. The Navier-Stokes equations are coupled to the Darcy equations via appropriate interface conditions. A weak solution of the coupled problem is analyzed. Numerical approximations of the solution are obtained with the continuous finite element method or the discontinuous Galerkin method. Under sufficient regularity, convergence of the schemes is obtained with respect to the mesh size.
