Have you ever heard anyone, maybe a newscaster, say something like, "The national debt is growing exponentially"? This problem is an example of Exponential Growth. Take a look at its graph below. In 30 days, it increased from 1 penny to over 10 million dollars.
Notice how the function grows very slowly at first, then increases rapidly. Remember how it seemed to take us forever to get to $20,000, but then how quickly it grew to over a million.
