A Condition for Unique Ergodicity of Minimal Symbolic Flows.

ABSTRACT

We extend Veech's criterion for unique ergodicity of minimal interval exchange transformation to general symbolic flows. A weaker version of this criterion has been used in one of my earlier papers to elementary establish Keane's conjecture (first proved independently by Masur and Veech). Our sufficient condition for unique ergodicity is that

lim sup [n a(n)] > 0,
as n -> infinity.

where a(n) stands for the minimal of the positive "weights" among all the n-blocks.
